Krčín's Round Trip I.
We have prepared for you two bicycle round trips through places related to Krčín's activities in this region. There is no other possibility than to start in Sedlčany. In the southwest part of Sedlčany’s main square you can find his bronze memorial tablet, on which he is displayed. It is a scale copy of the above-life-size Krčín statue which stands on the Svět pond dam near Třeboň. A statue of Krčín should have also decorated the nearby fountain (its upper part has the shape of the Rožmberk heraldry rose). A plaster model of the statue by Břetislav Benda is exhibited in the Sedlčany Town Museum. We would like to call your attention to one of the most valuable of Krčín's inheritances – a richly illuminated Hymn-Book. In this book Krčín is portrayed along with his fellow men-of-letters singing chants on the St. Martin church-gallery.
Krčín was famous for his agricultural abilities – he built ponds, watermills, breweries, and farmsteads. Also in Sedlčany Krčín built a brewery, fish-ponds and a large watermill. Now, on the site of the former Krčín brewery you can find the Sokolovna gymnasium, and the watermill (in Jateční Street) was also rebuilt several times. But this building is not too inviting, so we will rather set out for other mill. Bicycle path No. 8133 will lead us to the torso of the largest Dutch-type windmill in the country towering on the hill near the village of Příčovy. There are disputes about the builder of the windmill but most indicate either Lobkowicz or Krčín.
The next stop on our way is Dublovice village. Here, in The Holy Trinity church Krčín's daughter Mariana was buried, which fact is proved by the tombstone placed inside the church. Let's go northward, towards the largest pond of the Sedlčany Region – Musík (50 ha). Krčín also participated in building ponds in other places like Křepenice, where he designed the Návesník and neighbouring Nepřízeň ponds. However, there is another edifice that attracts tourists to Křepenice. On this very site the Lord of Sedlčany built his seat, following the pattern of the South-Bohemian Kratochvíle Chateau, which he used to call Krčín's New Little Castle.
Continuing on the way you will get a closer view of Krčín's Domain. Let's follow bicycle route No. 301 towards Zvírotice, then through Líchovy to Chramosty. If you are considering returning to Sedlčany, you can turn back to Dublovice and Příčovy here. However, if you want you can choose a longer way, then follow the bicycle path on the map past the Mečkov forester's house towards Podlipí, Štileček, Třebnice and Solopysky.
